Hi Amy. We don't know each other, but I saw your question on a homeschooling blog and came here to answer your question to be sure that you get it.
Does anyone else go through it? (needing quiet... order etc? ABSOLUTELY! I have to admit... homeschooling is an art, and it takes time to get it down (albeit... no two schools are the same!). But if your children are thriving it is so worth it to hang in there. One thing I have found is that routine is good to aim for rather than a schedule with absolute times on it. It helps me to have a list of goals to accomplish, then go with the flow in a relaxed manner. It amazes me too, how quickly those goals are met and how much time still remains to learn more. The important thing is that they are learning and enjoying it. And you can take care of yourself by scheduling in some down time for yourself each day to do something that is relaxing and enjoyable for you... while they do something that you know they are very capable of doing on their own. Last year I went rollerblading each afternoon right after making lunch for the kids while they did independent study about whatever they felt like learning about (electives... :). It really helped me a ton because I got exercise, sunshine and fresh air, and quiet; and my kids got to see me taking care of myself while they grew in independence without the risk of not accomplishing something vital.
